Dermatologic Surgery

Dermatologic surgery focuses on the surgery of the skin, mostly as a treatment of skin tumors. Due to aging process and partially due to lifestyle, different types of benign and malignant tumors may develop in the skin. A rough distinction is made between two groups of malignant tumors: non-melanoma (unpigmented) and melanoma skin cancer (pigmented).

In more than 90% of cases, skin cancer can be removed by surgery in a curative manner. Surgery is therefore considered as gold standard in skin cancer therapy. In rare cases, non-surgical therapies must be employed instead of surgery due to age, concomitant diseases, cancer stage or other factors.
